Free Cities: Origins

Free Cities: Origins (FCO) is an HTML-based game built on the SugarCube 2 engine, inspired by the cult classic Free Cities by FCAuthor. While the original leaned heavily into management simulation, FCO turns the formula on its head—adding deep RPG elements that put you directly into the story.

Set in a world years after the collapse of modern civilization, time has moved forward, though the Gregorian calendar lingers on—its years reset to some point in the forgotten past. You enter this broken world not as a ruler, but as prey: an unfortunate soul enslaved by Shintani Hiroyuki, a man obsessed with his imagined Japanese heritage. Consumed by myth and delusion, he dreams of rebuilding a lost era from the fragments of legends.

He doesn’t know the truth. But you’ll have to live it.
